The Event Manager Survival Kit

Event managers need to be magical creatures and have the ability to solve all kinds of problems and issues with no notice.  We need to reach into our Mary Poppins party bags and always be prepared for anything the event world throws at us.   With that in mind we will share with you some of the items we keep with us in our “doing box”.  Yes that’s right – thank you Playschool – we have our very own version that keeps us sane onsite.

Our number one, yes THE most important “must have” onsite is a sense of humour and the ability to be flexible.  Our event managers are focussing on event success, avoiding potentially disastrous situations and concerned about staff and guest safety while mastering strict timelines.  It is imperative that our onsite teams remain positive and motivated. Our event managers’ ability to lighten the mood and drive everyone to the end goal is the number one essential. With that one ticked, the LOUD version of a survival kit includes:

  • Great scissors, stanley knives and multi-tools
  • Gaff tape
  • Cable ties
  • Tape measure
  • Torch
  • Mallet
  • Basic tools such as screw drivers, hammers, pliers
  • Tap key
  • Spare batteries
  • Well stocked First Aid Kit
  • Stationery – yes we keep multiples of everything with us onsite – it’s like an Officeworks Express
  • Items like blue tac, double sided tape, Velcro tape etc
  • Rain coats, sunscreen, bug spray, hand sanitiser
  • Cleaning products
  • Healthy snacks
  • WATER, WATER, WATER

OK so we have skipped over some important items like running orders, BI/BO sheets, floor plans, risk management plans, contact lists etc but that is why we are here.  When you are onsite holding a printed sign with no way of putting it up, we will be your unicorn…
