Speaker of the Month – Dr Richard Harris SC OAM

Dr Richard “Harry” Harris, SC, OAM became a well-known name in both international and national media after what can only truly be called heroic involvement in the Thai cave rescue.
Harry’s diving experience spans 30 years and has seen him complete many record breaking and daring dives, and this combined with his skills and expertise has bought him into the specialised field of aeromedical retrieval medicine in Adelaide, South Australia. By building relationships with emergency services locally he had been preparing for such an event.

Risking his own life, he was the last person to come out of the caves on completion of the mission. Richard was awarded the Star of Courage for unwavering and selfless bravery following the successful rescue of the trapped soccer team and the Order of Australia for “service to the international community”. He was awarded Australian of the Year for South Australia in 2019 and the joint 2019 Australian of the year with his dive partner Craig Challen.

Harry’s a captivating speaker and his core focus of his presentation is resilience, the importance of troubleshooting as well as focusing on a goal no matter how impossible and overwhelming the odds.
