Planning a Sustainable Event – Part 1: Catering

When you gather a large group together, you can be left feeling a little guilty with the amount of waste it creates. At LOUD we’ve put tougher some key ways to ensure catering isn’t wasteful. Here are a few key tips on how to reduce your environmental impact when planning your next event:

Catering

  • Aim to ensure your confirmed catering numbers are as close to possible of the number of people you expect to attend the event
  • Understand your demographic and cater to their likes
  • Have jugs of water and glasses rather than bottled water
  • Have your barista serve the coffee in crockery rather than disposable cups
  • Ensure condiments are served in dishes/dispensers rather than individual sachets
  • Avoid single use/disposal plates and cutlery
  • Where possible use linen napkins rather than paper
  • Opt for menu items made with fresh, local, and seasonal produce
  • Ask if your venue will
consider donating left over food to a food bank or charity such as OzHarvest; or if they are involved in a sustainability/composting program such as Closed Loop.
