Planning a Sustainable Event – Part 1: Catering
When you gather a large group together, you can be left feeling a little guilty with the amount of waste it creates. At LOUD we’ve put tougher some key ways to ensure catering isn’t wasteful. Here are a few key tips on how to reduce your environmental impact when planning your next event:
Catering
- Aim to ensure your confirmed catering numbers are as close to possible of the number of people you expect to attend the event
- Understand your demographic and cater to their likes
- Have jugs of water and glasses rather than bottled water
- Have your barista serve the coffee in crockery rather than disposable cups
- Ensure condiments are served in dishes/dispensers rather than individual sachets
- Avoid single use/disposal plates and cutlery
- Where possible use linen napkins rather than paper
- Opt for menu items made with fresh, local, and seasonal produce
- Ask if your venue will
consider donating left over food to a food bank or charity such as OzHarvest; or if they are involved in a sustainability/composting program such as Closed Loop.
