Event Focus – WASH Futures 2018
LOUD recently had the pleasure of working with the International WaterCentre and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on the 2018 Water Sanitation and Hygiene Conference (WASH Futures).
This is a biennial conference that brings together Water Sanitation Practitioners from all over the world, working collaboratively to make improvements to the supply and standards of water, sanitation and hygiene “at all times and everywhere”.
Focus of this year’s conference was “How do we meet the WASH needs of women and girls, people with disabilities, impoverished urban populations, and all marginalised populations, while empowering them to further improve their lives?” What an important subject matter and the significance of this was not lost on the LOUD team.
The event consisted of a two-day conference and three days of training. There were several social functions for delegates to attend to further their networking and collaboration.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade sponsored a number of delegates to attend from developing nations as well as international students currently studying WASH in Australia. LOUD were responsible for flight and accommodation bookings, per diem payments, insurance and overall pastoral care for these delegates.
Overall, LOUD welcomed 46% international delegates, and 34% from outside of Queensland.
The WASH Futures 2018 conference was an overwhelming success and delegates remarked that the organisation of the conference was second-to-none and the learnings incredibly valuable. LOUD are looking forward to working on WASH 2020 and continuing to assist in bringing these delegates together to make a difference in the world!
