Event Flashback – Queensland Children’s Hospital Opening

A new chapter in children’s healthcare began when Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital opened its doors near South Bank in 2014. Since renamed as Queensland’s Children’s Hospital the facility is Australia’s largest children’s hospital providing state of the art treatment and care for sick children for the state and Northern New South Wales.
LOUD events was appointed to provide a streamlined solution to people movement and logistics for the Hospital’s staff for a Family Open Day as well as Public Open Day in September of that year. On the open days, family and friends and members of the public were invited to take a sneak peek inside the hospital before it opened its doors to patients later that year.
With tours running at regular intervals between 8am and 4pm, the days saw members of the public guided through the new hospital, using specific floors and lifts banks to each tour. It was a challenging event in its planning with considerations including lift capacities, security of the infrastructure and public, people movement and weather considerations as well as general event logistics such as volunteer training and the simple understanding of a massive building and it’s multiple floors and layouts.
LOUD worked with a large onsite team as well as over 100 volunteers to manage the event which included members of hospital staff trained specifically with talking points of the construction journey, information on specific equipment, technological advancements and considerations included into the planning of the state of the art hospital.
